In less than a month from the article at Yafaau’s blog about the difference in the allowance for Persons with disAbilities, Department of Gender and Family takes action and requests all Visually impaired persons to register themselves in the Registry for PwD’s. This is a good initiative by the health ministry. I think, rather than registering themselves, Dept. of Gender should add them to the registry with verification. Last month, the “Disabilities Act”(Bill 8/2010, hereafter referred to as “disAbility Bill”) got ratified by President Nasheed. Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has released the Report of the Baseline Assessment on Activities Addressing Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
