We support Donation to Stop Violence Against Children

The Maldivian Students Association (UK) is collecting donations for children’s charities in Maldives. This initiative was inspired by the Facebook campaign to Stop Violence Against Children. They have set up a donation page as there were no links on Facebook to donate to Maldivian charities.

There are three main children’s charities that these donations will go to.

1. Care Society
2. Kudakudhinge Hiyaa (Ministry of Gender & Family)
3. ARC (Advocatin Rights for Children)

If you would like to send a donation anonymously please let MSA-UK know through paypal message box or if you would like to send a donation to a specific charity please include the charity’s name in the message box on the paypal donation page.

Each year December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Day aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities and gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of their communities.

I’ve been involved in meetings with The Disability Council, Gender dept., NGO’s (Care, ADD, MDA, BVIAM, ARC…) to discuss on how this year’s disability day would be marked. Stakeholders were briefed about the events disability council and DGFPS There will be a walk/rally on Friday and a family evening on Saturday with stalls and awareness campaigns. These are only some of the many events planned for the day.

But to organize such an event, we need VOLUNTEERS and we need MANY! If you think you could help in anyway, feel free to let me know by SMS at 7776688 And show your support to the most disadvantaged people in our little but vibrant society.

This year’s theme:
“Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond”

The goal of full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in society and development was established by the “World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons”, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1982. read more

Thank you. We have been able to compile a list of more than 35 volunteers for this event. Grouped them today and they are NOW helping the staff of Dept. of Gender and Family Protection Services in preparing tags, packing gift items, help with stationary shopping… etc These are some preliminary preperations for disAbility Day Family Evening.
