Forum on Disability invitation

One day policy forum on children with special needs in which, relevant ministries will give presentation on their current role on rights/healthcare of children with special needs. The Ministry of Gender and Family will also give a presentation on a survey conducted at Haa Alif and Haa Dhaal atoll on the status of disability in these areas.
The Ministry of Gender and Family would also be presenting the final version of its “Action plan for Children with Disabilities 2008-2013″

9.00 – 9.10 Open and welcome – Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi
9.15 – 9.45 Presentation on the Child and Family Protection Authority’s visit to Haa Alif and Haa Dhaal – Joanna Campion (CFPA Disability Consultant). Joanna will distribute the visit report, present the key findings and make suggestions for how the information can be used to inform policies/action.
9.45 – 10.00 Selection of video shorts/case studies from children with disabilities in Maldives – Joanna Campion and Fathimath Nihama (CFPA). Examples will be given of individual children with disabilities in Maldives that demonstrate some of the more common problems facing families.
10.00 – 10.30 Q & A on the visit and case studies –Mazeena Jameel, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Gender and Family to facilitate, Joanna Campion and Fathimath Nihama to answer questions.

10.50 – 11.20 Presentation by Ministry of Gender and Family. Part one of the Action Plan for Children with Disabilities. Followed by Q &A. Speaker – to be confirmed
11.20 – 11.50 Presentation by the Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security on their part of the Action Plan for Children with Disabilities – Improving access to Equipment and Financial Support for People with Disabilities. Followed by Q &A. Speaker – to be confirmed.
11.50 – 12.20 Presentation by the Ministry of Health on their part of the Action Plan for Children with Disabilities – Improving access to Healthcare and Therapeutic Services for people with disabilities. Followed by Q &A. Speaker – to be confirmed.
12.20 – 12.50 Presentation by the Ministry of Education on their part of the Action Plan for Children with Disabilities – Improving access to education for children with disabilities. Followed by Q &A. Speaker – to be confirmed.

13.30 – 13.45 Final comments and remarks for the plan – Mazeena to facilitate, Joanna to incorporate comments.
13.45 – 14.00 Formal adoption of the action plan for children with disabilities – Please ensure that the person present from your Ministry is in a position to endorse the action plan at the meeting.
14.00 – 14.30 Discussion – Budgeting and coordinating the action plan – Please ensure that the person present from your Ministry is able to commit funds for the first year of the plan (2009).
