Yafaau’s Weight

We are worrying quite a lot about Yafaau’s weight. He hasn’t gained enough. He’s only 8k and he is 1yr 10mnts now. Yafaau is still on semi-solids because he couldn’t swallow solids, he chokes. We have tried many times to give him solids little by little but no progress. Its been a while though. We have stopped for about a month but am thinking of introducing some granules in the food again in the hope that he would learn how to swallow someday. Discharged EID MUBARAK. 14 Nov 2004

Yafaau discharged after 3 days. He didn’t show signs of aspiration but had fever for sure and the lab tests showed he had an infection. He is ok now. There is no fever today and takes food. We were very happy because two of Yafaau’s paediatricians seperately visited us at the ward. They were happy to talk and gave good advices on handling situations if he gets aspirated… Tips on good Doctor/patient/parent relationship Always ask questions and you will get a reply, never come out of consultations with a question in mind. ADMITTED: High Fever, suspected aspiration… again!

01:40AM We decided to goto casualty because of the long holidays in line. After seeing Yafaau, docs decided to admit suspecting of aspiration. 06:50PM Fever had subsided, the last reading was 98.6F The result of the tests confirms that there was an infection. But our doc. confirmed that it was not due to aspiration. Insha Allah we hope we’d get discharged tommorrow of there is no indication of fever again. Last night I had to work late because of Nov 11

Last night I had to work late because of Nov 11 decorations when Samiya rang up to me and said that Yafaau had a bad fever and is exessively crying. It was midnight when I could come home and we couldn’t consult doctor at that time. And worst, today is our republic day and more holidays follows on. Couldn’t contact with our Doctors by phone and even the clinics are closed. Frustrated but we are doing what we can to ease Yafaau even for a little while. We do keep a close eye on him. This week we have noticed Yafaau responding

This week we have noticed Yafaau responding more to our voice, he smiles bashfully while we talk to him. We have been talking to him since early childhood. Never stopped talking and sometimes wondered if he would ever respond. Here we are now. Yafaau is responding to our stimulation. There were times when our relatives used to say “will he understand what you are talking?, will he ever know where you are taking?” Never underestimate these children.
